ANGOLA, Ind. - Calvin rolled to a 25-13, 25-15, 25-17 conference victory at Trine University Wednesday evening.
Ranked 11th in the latest AVCA Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll, Calvin improves to 5-0 overall and 4-0 in the MIAA.
Calvin hit at a .290 clip in set one and followed up with a .433 hitting percentage in set two. Defensively, Calvin limited Trine (6-2 overall, 4-2 MIAA) to a hitting percentage of just .071 including just .020 in set three as the Knights closed out the win.
Calvin tallied nine service aces including four from sophomore Heidi Westra (Clarendon Hills, Il./Timothy Christian HS) who also racked up eight kills, 10 digs and three block assists.
Sophomore Maria Bos (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) also had eight kills to go with an assist and a pair of block assists.
Senior McKenna Covey (Costa Mesa, Ca./Estancia HS) chalked up seven kills and four block assists and three digs. Freshman Gabriella Kellogg (Belleville, Mich./Plymouth Christian Academy) had seven kills, three digs and two block assists.
Junior Grace Kellogg (Belleville, Mich./Plymouth Christian Academy) had seven digs.
Sophomore Aubrey Wrubel (Jenison, Mich./Jenison HS) had a big match with 21 digs to go with two assists and two aces.
Junior Anna Schriemer (Vicksburg, Mich./Vicksburg HS) recorded 30 assists and 10 digs.
COACHES COMMENT: "We came to play tonight," said Calvin head women's volleyball coach Amber Warners. "We had swarming defense and hit really well. Overall, this was our best performance of the year. We will keep working hard to improve."
NEXT UP: Calvin will travel to Kalamazoo on Friday for a 7 p.m. conference match.
