ANGOLA, Ind. - The Calvin women's indoor track and field team had a strong showing at the MIAA Jamboree hosted by Trine University Saturday.
Freshman Delaney Sall (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) led the way by winning the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.08, edging Hope's Grace Behrens who took second in 1:00.34.
Calvin's distance medley relay team also took first place in a time of 12:41.88. The relay included junior Sadie Heeringa (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS), sophomore Sienna Ruiter Diaz (Glen Arbor, Mich./Plymouth Christian Academy), Sall and senior Taylor TenPas (Lynden, Wash./Lynden Christian HS). The winning time currently ranks fourth on the NCAA III Indoor Track and Field performance list.
In the mile run, senior Annie Needs (Peru, Il./Saint Bede Academy) took second in a career-best time of 5:19.92. Freshman Hadley Koeman (Whitinsville, Mass./Whitinsville Christian HS) also scored points by placing sixth in a time of 5:44.30.
In the 3,000 meter run, Calvin had three runners score in the top-eight. Junior Brynne Winiarski (Naperville, Il./Neuqua Valley HS) was sixth (10:57.58), junior Haley Weesies (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grandville Calvin Christian HS) seventh (10:58.68) and freshman Jenna Allman (Ann Arbor, Mich./Saline HS) eighth (11:03.54).
Calvin will now prepare to compete at the MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships March 5 inside the Huizenga Tennis and Track Center.
