NAPERVILLE, Il. - The Calvin women's track and field team took sixth place at the North Central College Invitational this past Saturday with a final team score of 43 points.
Early in the meet, Calvin scored points in the distance medley relay as the Knights took fourth place. Calvin's relay team of freshman Sienna Ruiter-Diaz (Glen Arbor, Mich./Plymouth Christian Academy), senior Sarah Ball (Lynden, Wash./Lynden Christian HS), sophomore Haley Weesies (Grand Rapids, Mich./Calvin Christian HS) and freshman Josian Aardema (Grand Haven, Mich./Western Michigan Christian HS) clocked in with a time of 13:53.00.
Sophomore Sadie Heeringa (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) scored in the mile run, placing sixth (5:23.17) and then claimed points in the 800 meters with a seventh place time of 2:25.01.
Senior Michelle Koetje (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) led a 2-5-8 Calvin finish in the 3,000 meter run, placing second in a time of 10:29.71. Junior Annie Needs (Peru, Il./Saint Bede Academy) was fifth (10:41.07) and sophomore Brynne Winiarski (Naperville, Il./Neuqua Valley HS) eighth (11:10.48).
Junior Stephany Morrow (Eagle Lake, Mn./Mankato East HS) continued to impress in the pole vault, taking sixth with a season-best vault of 10-2.
Junior Erin Van Lenten (Hawthorne, NJ/Eastern Christian HS) was fourth in the long jump with a season-best leap of 16-7.
In the weight throw, sophomore Waverly VerHill (Verona, Pa./Trinity Christian HS) was sixth in the weight throw (50-2 1/2). Sophomore Tanya Visser (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern HS) placed second in the shot put with a career-best throw of 40-0.
Calvin is back in action this coming Friday at an invitational hosted by Aquinas College.
