ADRIAN, Mich. - Calvin dropped a hard-fought 2-0 decision at defending MIAA Tournament champion Adrian Wednesday evening.

Calvin put the first shot on goal as junior Jessica Paulson (Plymouth, Mich./Plymouth Christian HS) fired a shot that Giller turned aside just 6:31 into the match.
Adrian broke through for a goal in the 22nd minute as Angela Davis scored on an assist from Caroline Fleming.
In the 34th minute, Paulson ripped another shot on goal that Giller was able to save.
Adrian had a chance to take a two-goal lead in the 40th minute but Fleming's spot kick clanged off the post and was cleared away by the Calvin defense.
In the 53rd minute, Adrian took a 2-0 lead on a goal by Eve Davis.
In the 72nd minute, Calvin received a corner kick. Shortly after the corner, junior Abby Koops (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) sent a header past Giller but an Adrian defender was able to clear the ball off the line for a team save.
Freshman Karley Michmerhuizen (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian HS) added a shot on goal in the 85th minute that was saved by Giller.
COACHES COMMENT: "I'm very pleased with our team effort tonight against an experienced Adrian side," said Calvin women's soccer coach Emily Ottenhoff. "I thought our team came to compete and created some dangerous chances. In the end though, the team with more goals gets the win and we need to find a way to do that. We'll get back to work for another tough match this Saturday against Hope."
NEXT UP: Calvin will host rival Hope on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Zuidema Field. The game will be part of a women's/men's doubleheader with the Calvin men set to face Trine in the game to follow Saturday evening.
