GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin women's soccer team defeated North Central (Ill.) in a 2-0 non-conference match on Saturday afternoon at Zuidema Field.
The Knights struck in the 40th minute as junior Emily Orr (Hudsonville, Mich. / Unity Christian) whipped a crossing pass into the box and freshman Kayla Beebe (Kalamazoo, Mich. / Kalamazoo Christian) was on the back end of it to put the ball in the net for her first goal of her Calvin career and to give Calvin the 1-0 edge as the half closed out.
In the 53rd minute, junior Elizabeth Redfield (Cedar Springs, Mich. / Northpointe Christian) found Beebe on the run and she finessed the ball past the keeper to record her second goal of the contest.
Calvin outshot North Central 17-8.
Head Coach Emily Ottenhoff stated, "Happy to get a result today. North Central put a lot of pressure on us in the first half, but we were able to find a goal. Really pleased with our second half effort and our urgency to get another goal. Looking forward to a week to regroup before another tough team, University of the Chicago on Saturday."
The Knights return to action next Saturday as they host the University of Chicago at 1 p.m.
