Calvin Women's Soccer Remains Unbeaten With 1-0 Win Over MSOE

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin women's soccer team continued its strong start to the 2018 season, defeating Milwaukee School of Engineering 1-0 Saturday afternoon at Zuidema Field.

Throughout the first half of play, the effort on both sides of the ball was evenly matched as the score remained 0-0. It was not until eleven seconds remaining in the first half that the Knights were able to get on the board and take the lead 1-0. Senior, Kali Mouw (Avon, NY. / Avon Central) took the corner kick for the Knights and on the end of that ball was senior Mackenna Nesky (Hudsonville, Mich. / Unity Christian) who drilled the ball in the corner of the net. This was Nesky's second goal of the season for the Knights.

Heading into the second half at Zuidema Field with the Knights at a 1-0 advantage, the games momentum did not slow down as both teams battled until the clock ran out and the Knights were victorious.

Calvin outshot MSOE 13-4. On the other end of the ball, sophomore Amy Kliewer (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Forest Hills Northern) had one save in the net for the Knights.

"Our goal was to work hard together as a team," said Calvin women's soccer coach Emily Ottenhoff. "We knew that playing in a two-game weekend, we would need some grit and I thought we showed that today in getting the result. We're looking forward to heading out to the west coast and spending some more time together as a team."

The Knights will hit the road next weekend as they take on Puget Sound Friday Sept. 7 and Pacific Lutheran Saturday Sept. 8 where they will look to improve their undefeated record.
