Calvin sophomore Gabby Timmer has received All-America honors from Women's Division III News.
A native of Caledonia and a graduate of South Christian High School, Timmer has been named to the Women's DIII News All-America Fifth Team. The awards were announced earlier this week.
Timmer put together a stellar sophomore campaign, averaging 16.9 points and 9.0 rebounds a game while connecting on 50.1 percent of her field goal attempts and 77.1 percent of her free throw attempts.
During the year she was a three-time MIAA Player of the Week and was named to the All-MIAA First Team at the conclusion of the 2020 MIAA campaign. She was a Simpson Thanksgiving Classic All-Tournament Team selection and was named to the St. Norbert All-Tournament Team two weeks prior.
She opened 2020 with 21 points, 15 rebounds and 7 blocked shots in a 68-50 win over Adrian on January 4. Timmer posted nine double-doubles during the 2019-20 season and now has 21 career double-doubles.
Timmer finished second in the 2019-20 MIAA scoring race and is now just 85 points shy of reaching the 1,000 point mark for her career.
"Gabby had a great year as she adjusted to being the number one focus on the scout sheet of our opponents," said Calvin head women's basketball coach Mark Christner. "This is a team honor as we continue to grow as a group. We are excited to continue the growth of Calvin women's basketball."
The Calvin women's basketball team finished the 2019-20 season with an overall record of 17-10 while finishing fourth in the MIAA regular season standings with a 10-6 conference record. The Knights later reached the MIAA Tournament semifinals after defeating Alma 70-50 in the first round.
