GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - For the sixth time in her collegiate career and for the third time this season, Calvin sophomore Gabby Timmer has been named the MIAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
A native of Caledonia and a graduate of South Christian High School, Timmer helped Calvin claim conference victories over Saint Mary's and Olivet last week. In a 57-51 win at Saint Mary's Wednesday, Timmer poured in 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds. In a 92-55 win over Olivet on Saturday, she scored 15 points and collected six rebounds.
Over the course of the week, she averaged 20.0 points and 7.5 rebounds a game while connecting on 58.6 percent (17 of 29) of her field goal attempts and 85.7 percent (6 of 7) of her free throw tries.
In conference play, Timmer is ranked second in the MIAA in scoring average (16.2 ppg) and rebounding average (8.8 rpg).
The Knights are currently 8-5 on the season and 2-2 in the MIAA. Calvin has a conference matchup against Alma on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m.
