ADA, Oh. - Calvin's offense continued to motor along in high gear as the Knights claimed a 9-2 victory over host Ohio Northern Saturday night at the Ohio Northern Invitational.
The victory caps a Calvin weekend that saw the Knights outscore the opposition 14-2 over two games. Combined, Calvin (4-0-0) has outscored its opponents by a 27-2 margin through four games this year.
In its win over Ohio Northern Saturday night, Calvin led 5-1 at halftime and put the game out of reach with four goals in the opening 17:20 of the second half.
Senior Jacob Witte (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) and junior Hunter Olson (Canton, Mich./Canton HS) had two goals and one assist apiece. Junior Ian Adams (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) had a big night with a goal and three assists.
Senior Bobby McCaw (Dubuque, Ia./Hempstead HS) had a goal and two assists.
Sophomore Chris Morrish (Bradenton, Fl./Saint Stephan's School) went the first 67 minutes for Calvin and posted three saves. Senior Luke Schepers (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) closed out the game in net for the Knights.
"It was a great win against a good Ohio Northern side," said Calvin men's soccer coach Ryan Souders. "Coach (Brent) Ridenour is one of the best coaches in the country and Ohio Northern will be right at the top of a very difficult OAC. We were able to get a couple of goals early which really helped set the tone. We're happy to be coming home from Ohio with two wins."
Calvin returns to action Tuesday night when it travels to nearby Aquinas College for a 7 p.m. match.
