ADRIAN, Mich. - Calvin dropped a 76-59 road decision at Adrian Wednesday night.
At the midpoint of the league schedule, Calvin (10-8 overall) is tied with Hope for third place in the league standings at 4-3 in conference play with Trine in second at 5-2.
The host Bulldogs bolted out of the gate by connecting on five of their first six shots, en route to taking an 18-10 lead. Adrian then went on a 20-8 run to take a 38-18 lead and led 48-20 at halftime as the Knights shot just 25 percent from the floor in the first half while Adrian connected on 61.3 percent from the field.
Adrian (9-9 overall, 3-4 MIAA) maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half with Calvin slicing the deficit down to 17 in the closing minutes of play.
Senior Derrick DeVries (Grand Rapids, Mich./Covenant Christian HS) led Calvin in defeat with 22 points and 10 rebounds, notching his fourth double-double of the season and the ninth of his career. In scoring 22 points, he moved past Chris Prins and into 12th place on the Calvin career scoring list, boosting his career total to 1,363 points.
Jordan Harris led Adrian with 28 points while Jeremy Kalonji had 19.
Adrian shot 53.8 percent from the field while Calvin shot 36.2 percent.
The Knights return to action on Saturday, hosting league-leading Albion at 3 p.m.
