GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Calvin fell to defending national champion Wisconsin-Oshkosh 89-50 Saturday afternoon at Van Noord Arena.
The visiting Titans (5-3) put the pressure on the Knights (3-4) early, scoring the first seven points of the game. Calvin cut the gap down to five at 14-9 but the Titans quickly bumped the lead back up to double-digits shortly after and never looked back. Oshkosh led 48-24 at halftime and kept the Knights at a safe distance throughout the second half.
Senior Alex Bos (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS), senior Derrick DeVries (Grand Rapids, Mich./Covenant Christian HS) and junior Thad Shymanski (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) had 12 points apiece to lead the Calvin scoring attack.
Wisconsin-Oshkosh placed four players in double-figures in scoring led by Adam Fravert with 22 points while senior All-American center Jack Flynn had 19 points, five boards, two blocks and a pair of assists.
Wisconsin-Oshkosh shot 54.8 percent from the floor and hit 8 of 20 (.400) from three-point range along with 13 of 15 (.867) at the free throw line.
Calvin shot 31.3 percent from the floor. Wisconsin-Oshkosh held a 47-27 rebounding advantage over the Knights.
NEXT UP: Calvin will host Wheaton (Il.) Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. The Thunder (6-2) will be the second straight opponent Calvin will have faced that reached the 2019 NCAA III Final Four. The Thunder were national semifinalists in 2019.
